We're All One 'Paste' Away from a Disaster. Let's Fix That

We're All One 'Paste' Away from a Disaster. Let's Fix That

I've been using ChatGPT and Claude almost every day for the past year. Like millions of others, I paste code snippets, ask for strategy help, and use AI to reclaim hours of my day.

Last month, I saw one of our developers pasting a live OpenAI API key into ChatGPT.

I asked him, "Isn't that our private key?" He stopped mid-paste and quickly replaced it with a dummy one.

It wasn't that he was being reckless; he was just in his "flow."

That moment made me stop cold. I started thinking about all the data I had fed into my own AI tools over the last year. I had zero idea what I had actually shared in the name of "productivity."

This is the hidden tax of the AI era: the more productive we get, the more exposed we become. Most people don't realize they’ve crossed the line until the "Undo" button is no longer an option.

That is the problem we are solving.

The Pattern We've Seen Before

When the internet first exploded, everyone rushed to build on it. Businesses were created overnight. Entire industries transformed.

It was one of the most powerful innovations in history and the foundation on top of which the modern world is built.

And then the hacks happened. There was news of identity theft, fraud, and data leaks.

Security became an afterthought that eventually became an entire industry.

We're watching the exact same pattern with AI right now.

AI tools are incredible. They help us work faster, build businesses faster, and solve problems we couldn't solve before. The benefits are massive.

The catch?

Like before, security problems always come later. After the convenience is normalized. When everyone's already using it and when the damage is done.

The Risk Everyone Is Taking

Right now, we are moving at a terminal velocity. To keep up, people are feeding AI tools the "crown jewels" of their companies without a second thought.

I see it every day:

  • Marketers drop entire customer databases into a prompt to "find the segments," effectively handing over their lead lists to a black box.
  • Agencies paste sensitive client briefs into Claude to generate copy, unknowingly leaking their clients' upcoming pivots.
  • Developers share live API keys and proprietary logic while debugging, treating the chat box like a private terminal.
  • Accountants upload raw P\&L statements for "quick advice," bypassing every data protocol in the book.

Honestly, I don't blame them. I've been there, and I know that feeling of being overwhelmed with a deadline and having a tool that can solve your problem in three seconds.

When AI is that good, your brain ignores the risks. You just want the answer.

But that’s the trap. There’s no warning label, no "Are you sure?", and no safety net between a productive afternoon and a massive data leak. It just happens.

We've traded our "Need to Know" protocols for "Need to Finish" urgency.

And right now, urgency is winning.

Making AI Safe by Default

This is why Sequirly exists.

Our mission is simple: Make AI usage safe by default, without making it harder to use.

Sequirly is a browser extension that sits between you and AI tools, protecting sensitive information before it ever leaves your screen.

Think of it as a safety net for the AI age.

How It Works

We didn’t want to build another annoying pop-up that gets in your way. We wanted a silent partner that only speaks up when it actually matters.

  • Instant detection: Sequirly catches the "oops" moments, like an AWS key in a prompt or a spreadsheet of customer emails, before they leave your browser.
  • Privacy-First by Design: Everything runs locally. We never see your data, we never store your prompts, and nothing ever touches our servers. We exist to protect your privacy, not compromise it.
  • Context-Aware Intelligence: Sequirly knows the difference between a single test email and a database of 1,000 customers. You get alerted when there’s a real risk, not every time you type.

What We Protect

Currently, Sequirly detects and alerts you about:

  • Cloud credentials - AWS, GCP, Azure keys and tokens
  • API keys - Stripe, OpenAI, GitHub, and 50+ other services
  • Financial data - Credit cards, bank account numbers, tax IDs
  • Personal information - Social Security numbers, passport IDs, driver's licenses
  • Customer data - Email lists, phone numbers, addresses in bulk
  • Proprietary data - Code snippets with embedded secrets, database credentials

We're constantly expanding our detection capabilities based on real-world risks and user feedback.

Why This Matters Now

AI adoption is moving faster than security awareness ever could.

ChatGPT reached 100 million users faster than any technology in history, and today, over 80% of organizations have integrated AI into their daily workflow. But while the tools have evolved, our habits haven't.

We are currently living in the "honeymoon phase" of AI. A perfect storm of:

  • Maximum adoption: Everyone is using it.
  • Minimal awareness: Nobody knows where the data actually goes.
  • Zero built-in protection: The tools are designed to be "frictionless," which is just another way of saying "defenseless."

You might wonder why we haven't seen the massive, front-page AI data breaches yet. The truth? They’ve already happened; companies just don't know it yet.

Unlike a traditional hack where a server is breached and an alarm goes off, AI data exposure is a "silent leak." It’s a proprietary formula living in a training set, or a private API key sitting in a chat history. These aren't just risks; they are ticking time bombs.

By the time these leaks become front-page news, the damage will be irreversible.

We aren't trying to fearmonger. We're trying to give you the one thing AI companies didn't: a "Cancel" button for your mistakes.

What's Next?

We're building Sequirly to be the safety net you wished you had months ago. We’re starting small, focusing on the people who are on the front lines of the AI boom.

Here is how you can get involved:

  • Secure Your Team: If you’re an agency owner or lead a team, don't wait for a client to ask about your AI policy. Let’s build the B2B features you actually need, together. Book a discovery call
  • Spread the Word: Most people aren't being "careless", they just don't know the risks. Sharing this post might save a colleague from a career-defining mistake.

A Final Word

AI is the most transformative technology of our generation. It’s making us more capable than we ever thought possible.

But with greater power comes greater responsibility, and we can’t let convenience blind us to the consequences.

I’m building Sequirly because I want to use AI without the underlying anxiety. I want to move fast, stay creative, and know that my "flow state" won’t accidentally leak my business to the world.

We believe in a future where innovation doesn’t require sacrificing security. Using the world's best tools shouldn't mean crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.

This isn’t just a product. It’s a mission to make AI safe by default.

If you’ve ever hit "send" on a prompt and felt that split-second of panic, I’d love to talk to you.

Let's make AI safe by default.
